Maribor

Maribor is wonderfully nestled in the embrace of the green Pohorje mountains on one side and the picturesque wine-growing hills on the other. The city is located by the Drava River and in its centre grows the oldest, over 450 years old, vine in the world. Maribor was the European Capital of Culture 2012, Timber rafting city 2012, Silver Slovenia Green Destination, European City of Sport 2018. It is the centre of one of the fastest growing tourist destinations in Slovenia, and the city of the oldest vine in the world, attracting many visitors from all over the world to the Old Vine House.

The richness of urban and rural nature offer numerous opportunities for relaxation, rambling, cycling, riding, adrenaline, skiing and other sporting ventures, as well as for cultural, ethnological, wine and culinary and wellness adventure!

The City of Maribor, governed by Mayor SaÅ”a Arsenovič, is committed to becoming a circular city. It is the only Slovenia city with a dedicated Circular Economy Strategy, which builds on the city’s sustainable development strategy. The innovative project Wcycle is at the heart of Maribor’s circular economy plans. All this makes Maribor the perfect host city for the 4th Circular Change Conference.

How to get there

Travelling by plane

The airports in Ljubljana, Zagreb and Graz are all between one hour and one hour and a half drive away . Upon arrival at the airport, we recommend using the GoOpti shuttle or Nomago busservice to reach Maribor. We encourage our guests to bear in mind the environmental footprint of frequent flying and try to reach Maribor using other means of transport.

Travelling by car or bus

Maribor is easily reachable by car and is located next to the main motorway that connects major cities, such as Vienna, Zagreb, Ljubljana and Budapest. Parking spaces will be available at the venue’s own car park for a small fee. To reduce your environmental footprint, we recommend sharing your ride or using the car pooling website Prevoz.org.

The bus station in Maribor operates both Flixbus and Nomago buses.

Travelling by train

Maribor has train connections to Ljubljana, Vienna or Zagreb, which makes travelling by train a good (although not the fastest) option for those who wish to enjoy the scenery.

Taxi service

Taxis are affordable and relatively easy to find in Maribor.
